Charles Schug Dies Suddenly at Berne
Prominent
Business Man Falss Dead While Sitting in Living
Room.
Charles Schug, 69, prominent Berne business man, fell dead this morning at
7:35 o’clock while sitting in a chair at his home. Death it is believed, was due to apoplexy.
His death occurred after he had eaten
his breakfast and had returned to the living room. Before breakfast he had shoveled snow off the
sidewalk and it is thought this exertion may have partly caused the attack.
Mr. Schug was a member of the firm of Schug & Metler, automobile dealers. In 1887 he had moved to Berne from French
township, Adams county, forming at that time a partnership with a brother, Julius Schug, deceased, in conducting a
hardware business.
This business was continued for thirty years.
Julius Schug was also a member of the automobile firm until his death a
few years ago.
Charles was born in eastern Ohio, Oct
31, 1856, a son of Charles Schug and Catherine Roush Schug. He moved with his parents to French township
in 1887.
He was married to Katie Stauffer, whose death occurred in June, 1900. Her death was caused by the birth of twins,
one of which died at birth and the other a short time later.
Three daughter who survive are Martha
and Salome, living at home and Mrs. Menno Hershy, who also lives at Berne. A son Henry died 35 years ago. Brothers and sisters who survive are Philip
and Rudolph of Berne; John Schug of Decatur and Mrs. Daniel Neuenschwander of
Berne.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday
morning at 10 o’clock at the Mennonite church.
Burial will be at the M.R.E. cemetery.
